CFL DRAFT: MOCK 2020

The Canadian Football League 2020 draft is on April 30th 2020 which is just four days away. Which is why I am going to predict who each of the 9 teams will draft. Going in the draft order and finishing with Winnipeg and Montreal as they both don’t draft till the second round.

Frist on the clock is Calgary, they have built a very strong roster and continue to do this time and time again. Which is why I think it would be smart if they added to there ever so amazing defense. Jack Cassar from the Carleton University Ravens, is a beast of a Line Backer with 152.5 total tackles in just 2 seasons and one post season of University Sports play, 39 assisted tackles in total in the same duration 30.5 sacks in the same duration. No question here, he goes first overall and Calgary will be happy to select him.

Second team to draft is Toronto, they need all the help they can get which is why they been working hard to rebuild a team and have there offense set, with newly acquired Matt Nichols as quarterback and newly signed DaVaris Daniels as wide receiver and of course newly signed Marcus Thigpen as there running back. Which means they could use more help protecting the offensive skilled players, so an o line man is needed for this pick. Seeing as the top offensive line men in University Sports has been signed in the National Football League or NFL for short, the Argo’s will be proud to select, 6 foot 4, 300-pound Tomas Jack – Kurdyla from the University of Buffalo. He started almost all games since his Freshman year so he will be an excellent asset to T.O.

Third on the clock is, B.C. with a horrible o-line to protect all star QB Mike Reilly drafting an offensive lineman would be an incredibly smart move. Seeing as the top two available o line men have ether signed in the NFL or previously been selected in this draft they will need to go with the next best option which is too select, Chris Gangarossa from Wanger University and has proven to be a strong blocker along with the fact the he is 6 foot 6 and over 300 pounds. You can’t teach size. So, Chris makes for an excellent draft pick for B.C. Hopefully he proves him self well.

Next up is Edmonton, with a pretty well set roster but losing out to C.J. Gabel drafting a Running Back should help Edmonton out a lot, which is why Edmonton will be honored to select Dale Wright from Acadia University, who was on the leaderboard for top rusher for the past 3 years in U Sports. He has close to 3000 yards in rushing in just 3 years of playing in University Football. Should make for an excellent pick.

Now on the clock we have Hamilton drafting, which is interesting because this pick was a gift in the Jonny Manziel trade and they don’t really need a whole lot so want is available to them so they can draft the next best player off the board. Which is why Mason Bennett defensive end from North Dakota university is there best option. Whom recorded 65 solo tackles, 63 assisted tackles, 18 sacks in their National Collegiate Athletics Association career.

The 6th pick goes to Ottawa and they might want to look into someone that can help them defensively. Ottawa needs all the help they can get at this point on the defensive side of the ball, which is why any D position will help them. Adam Auclair from Laval University will suit Ottawa well as Auclair recorded 41 tackles in just 8 games played in U Sports.

Next up we have, Saskatchewan drafting, with another want scenario as they have a stacked line up they can grab anyone they whish from top of the board, which is why Sam Acheampong from Laurier University is a good pick. He showed much improvement over the years starting out with just 4 tackles in 2015 but ending his U sports career in 2019 with 19, he also recorded 11.5 sacks in his time with Laurier U and ended up with a total of 53 tackles during his whole time at Laurier. He should fit in well to an already strong Saskatchewan defensive unit.

Second last in the first round of the draft once again we have Hamilton, here they can utilize there pick to replace Lirim Harjullahu, who found his way to the NFL. I say use this pick to choose a field goal kicker because they already made a smart choice grabbing Mason Bennett, and Harjullahu did well for Hamilton. Thus drafting, L-P Simoneau should be an excellent choice for Hamilton, with 19 field goals made last season in just 8 games played and on top of the kicking leaderboard.

Last up on the first round of the draft, we have once again Toronto, although this pick was given to Toronto by Winnipeg in a trade for Zach Collaros , Toronto needs a lot of help which is why they have to be smart with this pick, more help defensively more so in the front 7 should help them because they have troubles in getting to the QB. Which is why line acker Bailey Feltmate from Laval University would be HUGE STEAL for Toronto, during Feltmates U Sports career in just 8 regular season games last season he recorded 58 .5 tackles last U Sports season and in total has 152 tackles in his 4 seasons University football career. Al though he doesn’t record much sacks, he has no problem getting people down in the back field so rushing the quarterback can be taught to him. If Toronto walks away with this pick it will be grade of A++

In the second round of the draft we have and 14th overall which is Montreal’s first pick it would be beneficial to them to draft a Wide Receiver to help add to the strong set of weapons for quarterback Adams Jr. Which is why it’s a smart move for Montreal to select, Brendan O’Leary-Orange. Brendan put up very impressive numbers in the NCAA with Nevada University. His most impressive year was back in 2017 when he caught 39 passes for 618 yards.

Finally, last but certainly not least, Winnipeg’s 18th overall pick is there first and with it they will be proud to select quarterback Adam Sinagra whom is my favourite selection of the draft. I just figured that no team besides Winnipeg is in need of a QB, considering most teams have there franchise QB including Ottawa who recently signed Nic Arbuckle, who will do well for Ottawa, thus with Matt Nichols off your roster, and Chris Sterveler gone to south of the border, you can’t put your whole trust into Zach Collaros. So, it makes sense for Winnipeg to select the top quarterback off the board. Adam may play in U Sports, but he has proven himself to be better than Nathan Rourke on paper who plays in the NCAA. So, this makes for a great pick for Winnipeg.

There you have it your CFL Mock draft done by Big Al. For Touchdown Talks Canada, thank you for reading, have great rest of your day and week!
