CFL 2021 FANTASY ADVICE-
Defensive Units:
Last week Big Al introduced Touchdown Talks Canada latest blog/podcast series, fantasy advice. Before the real deal, I (Big AL) will be ranking each fantasy lineup positions for both players/D units from bottom to top. (At least 9 to 10 each week.) Keep in mind these are the official rankings based on my (Big AL) knowledge for the entire 2021 CFL season for the official daily fantasy game presented by TSN! This means these rankings will vary from week to week, which is good reason to tune into the podcast for when Big AL does the Friendly Fantasy segment on the official Touchdown Talks Canada podcast for updated fantasy advice. Also, we at TTC will cap off the series with more than just rankings but overall advice for this official TSN fantasy game as well as for a “draft style fantasy world.” Thus, without further a due, Big AL and us at TTC presents to you fantasy rankings for advice… since last week we kicked it off with the quarterbacks this week we will be ranking the people that go after the quarterbacks and try and bring em down! AKA the defensive units!
9. Ottawa RedBlacks- probably last in the league last year or at least close to last for good reason, with not much change and with little to no help on Defense do NOT play Ottawa this year very much or at all for the 2021 Canadian Football League fantasy season.
8. Hamilton Tiger-Cats- WOAH HOLD UP! (say something such as the previous statement far too often but…) Hamilton just had a very impressive year last Canadian Football League season in 2019… Defense included! Even fantasy lovers liked putting the Tie Cats on their fantasy lineups! The problem is two things. One of their Defense CHOKED against divisional opponents, ESPECIALLY rivals! YET THE TEAM PLAYS IN THE EAST…. THE WEAKER LINK IN THE CFL!! (ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF DEFENSE) I’m sorry but that previous statement made makes it seem like so Hamilton is a NO GO for the new Canadian Football League 2021 season in terms of fitting the Tiger-Cats in a fantasy lineup! Think of it as a Toronto QB in 2019… BOOM OR BUST! Sometimes in one game! And when that BOOM takes place at a predictable moment and that BUST takes place against easier teams, that is just not impressive and kind of sketchy for us CFL fantasy lovers! So, say no to Hamilton in the 2021 CFL fantasy year. Plus, the other reason is that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Defensive lineup, in terms of the official TSN fantasy CFL game, was just TOO pricy for me and should be your liking! The price is also what hurts the football teams which resides in the Hammer! Therefore, Hamilton is a PASS for me in CFL 2021 TSN fantasy!
7. British Columbia Lions- Although their D unit is not the worst and maybe deserving to be ranked slightly higher. Little to no change has been made in BC on their D unit since the 2019 CFL season. On top of the most recent point made in this blog entry, the Lions D got tired out really quick and real fast last year, due to always taking the field, as a result, fantasy points will eventually decline with this team. Consider taking them if the price is right because they do have an OK D roster, but they may not get you a whole lot of fantasy numbers. Thus, be careful taking BC Lions for defense purposes in fantasy.
6. Edmonton Football Team- Like BC but opposite, OK deference amazing offense that keeps their D off the field and well-rested. The Edmonton D may even be better than OK however there not flashy and hence why they don’t necessarily rack up fantasy points. So well rested yes, but for terms of fantasy, not the greatest but still find them against a weak opponent and if the price is right you have a great investment here!
5. Montreal Alouettes- ahhhh the no BOOM or BUST defensive unit fantasy team! The team that isn’t overly priced and you get what you get! Not heaven but boy does it feel good and calming when you have this team in your lineup. Won’t damage your fantasy roster and won’t do much in racking up the points! However, it’s a safe thing and a sure bet to keep em in your lineup… NO RISK HERE! Average yet SAFE get a SAFE rank at number 5.
4. Calgary Stampeders- This team somehow always makes do with what they have and always all around is STACKED! In-depth line-ups and a powerhouse team! Somehow will lose all their talent and come back next year close or better to what they were before! Calgary deserves a HIGHER rank on this list. Never screws up your lineup on fantasy!
3. Toronto Argonauts- With acquiring players such as the all-time sack leader going on for many years Charleston Hughes and other elite defensive players such as ratio breaker Cameron Judge which both players were formally and most recently part of a team that at least in recent history had one of if not THE best defensive unit in ALL of the CFL! On top of which Toronto also made some very important defensive changes to the organization's lineup. The big apple should be making HUGE plays on the D unit for sure! On top of which, their now incredibly stacked Offensive roster will help keep the defense well rested for when the strong D unit needs to take the field. With all that being said all on paper, eyeball test, stats-wise you as a fantasy lover will be happy to expect big things in fantasy for such an impressive D unit. Unfortunately, due to lack of chemistry, between players, the Argos may not have the best of best fantasy defensive lineup. Definitely however top tier and will rack up points at some points this 2021 CFL season, so keep your eyes peeled for the T.O. defensive unit Argos and be ready to play such a unit in fantasy at any given moment!
2. Saskatchewan Roughriders- Simple, one of the most dominant defensive units year in year out, and really can help your fantasy lineups on D! Plus, the price is perfect for the Roughrider team. They lost some important pieces however they are stacked and in-depth. Not a worry here put them in!
1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers- Had to put the most recent Grey Cup team in 2019 as number 1! What can I say Defense wins championships?? And perhaps even Fantasy weeks! This is a team that is a must-have at any given moment, especially when in doubt! Good if not THE best option here for the TSN official CFL fantasy game.
